Markle Has Now Won 6 of the 30 Wes Dixon's

From Today's Peterborough Examiner

Reaching the 30th anniversary of the Wes Dixon Invitational Men's Golf Tournament had special significance for Pine Crest Golf Club owners Bob and Jan Dixon.

The siblings named the tournament in honour of their late father and picked Father's Day to hold it each year.“I knew my dad for less than 30 years,” said Jan Dixon, the third generation of family to operate the club since its inception in 1925. “I was 27 when he died so we've been doing this longer than I knew him. Having it on Father's Day is kind of interesting, too. It's always been a tradition for us because he was our father.”

The 167 golfers were given commemorative ball markers, hat clips and golf towels to mark the occasion.

The 30th winner was a familiar face as Dalewood's Chris Markle earned his sixth tournament title. He first won the event in 1992. He followed up Saturday's opening-round low of 68 with a second-day 73 for a one-under par 141. He finished one stroke ahead of Kawartha Golf & Country Club's Jake Gerolamy (74-68–142) followed by Lindsay GCC's Kasey Timms (73-70–143) and 2011 champion Paul Poulin, of Newcastle, (72-72–144). Newcomer Mark Burrell had Sunday's low round of 69 finishing fifth (76-69–145). KGCC's Marc Savard shot 147.

Flights winners included: Second Flight: Kirk Miller 74-71–145; Third Flight: Peter Thompson 75-74–149; Fourth Flight: Mike Thompson 78-77–155; Fifth Flight: Rob Ball 80-78–158; Sixth Flight: Kevin Durkin 84-80–164; Seventh Flight: Mike Driscoll 87-86–173; Eighth Flight: Scott McKenzie 87-89–176.
